Rachel Kraut, BSN, RN is a registered nurse whose clinical expertise has centered around maternal-child healthcare and women’s health in an outpatient setting. She seeks to empower women as they manage new identities as parents and address the reality that infant feeding can be a significant stressor for mothers during an already tender postpartum period. As a nurse home visitor with Nurse-Family Partnership, which provides first-time, low-income parents with a registered nurse from pregnancy until the child’s second birthday, Rachel helped clients navigate complex physiologic, emotional, and developmental concerns, including feeding challenges at all stages of early childhood.
Whether performing ultrasounds in the clinic or discussing infant weight gain challenges at a parent’s bedside, she has had the great honor of listening to patients in their most vulnerable moments and being a trusted source of practical infant care education for pregnant and new mothers throughout her career.
Rachel is a graduate of Northwestern University and the University of Colorado, Anschutz Medical Campus. A Chicagoland native, Rachel currently lives in Colorado with her husband, two children, and dog.
If you could invent a product for babies, what would it be?
I’d invent a magical product that would allow parents to transfer all babies to their cribs without the babies waking. Perhaps it’s an enchanting lullaby that keeps baby snoozing after falling asleep in mom’s arms, which then keeps baby sleeping so caregivers can get some shut eye themselves.

If you could invent a product for babies, what would it be?
I’d invent a “baby translator”—a device that deciphers their different cries, moods, and facial expressions to help parents understand exactly what their little ones need. Wishful thinking, I know! But it would take some of the guesswork out of parenting and make those early months a little less stressful.

If you could write a book for parents, what would the title be?
I have actually been contemplating writing and illustrating a children’s book about my dog, Rhubarb. The plan is to call it Corgis in Pajamas. Now I just need to stop procrastinating, and start drawing!

If you could invent a product for babies, what would it be?
I would invent a wearable wrist or ankle band for babies that tracks sleep and soothing patterns. It would connect to a app on the parent’s phone to give real time information and suggestions for their individual baby on what works best for sleep and soothing routines.
